About This Retro Game
Developed by the creators of Double Dragon, WrestleFest combined Technōs Japan's signature beat-em-up mechanics with authentic WWF presentation. The game featured exaggerated sprites, fluid animations, and the largest wrestler roster (12 characters) of any arcade wrestling game at the time.
WrestleFest introduced several innovations including the first-ever Royal Rumble mode in a wrestling game, backstage brawls, and interactive crowd elements. The control scheme allowed for grappling moves, running attacks, and signature finishers like Hogan's leg drop.
Though never officially ported to consoles, WrestleFest remains influential through fan mods and spiritual successors. Its combo system directly inspired the WWF No Mercy engine, and the game was re-released digitally in 2012 before being delisted due to licensing issues.
