About This Retro Game
Created by the developer behind the acclaimed Pokémon Emerald Seaglass, Lazarus pushes the GBC-inspired visual style even further — every menu, Pokémon sprite, and overworld object has been hand-crafted to evoke the nostalgic look of a Game Boy Color game running with the GBA's added resolution and processing power. The Ilios Region draws heavily from the Aegean Sea, featuring mainland Greece and surrounding islands with diverse biomes.
The hack offers two distinct difficulty modes to tailor the challenge. Normal mode provides soft level caps and standard gym leader teams, while Hard mode enforces strict level caps and pits you against enhanced gym rosters with stronger moves and better coverage. An in-game EV/IV editor in the party menu, a recoded DexNav with transparent shiny hunting rerolls, and extensive side content — including a Stardew Valley-style fishing minigame, underground mining, and ship cabin customization — add remarkable depth.
Version 2.0 added four original Mega Evolutions (Typhlosion, Carracosta, Aurorus, Tyrantrum), Mega Crabominable and Mega Golisopod, the ability to swap Poké Ball types from the bag menu, and an option to disable level caps entirely. With an original score, full postgame content, and dozens of side quests, Pokémon Lazarus stands as one of the most ambitious and polished GBA ROM hacks in the community.
