HeartGold Version completely rebuilt the classic Generation II experience with modern Generation IV mechanics, including the Physical/Special split, updated move sets, and enhanced online capabilities through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
The game introduced the Pokéwalker, an innovative pedometer accessory that allowed players to transfer one Pokémon to the device, gain experience points through walking, and encounter wild Pokémon in special areas.
Featured following Pokémon for the first time in the series, where any Pokémon in the first party slot would follow behind the player character in the overworld, with unique animations for each species.
