About This Retro Game
Developed by Capcom's same team behind DuckTales and Mega Man, this PC Engine exclusive expands the NES version with enhanced graphics and new stages. The HuCARD format allows for smoother animation and richer colors.
Darkwing utilizes his gas gun to shoot in eight directions while performing acrobatic jumps and ledge grabs. Unique 'Terror Techniques' like the hanging umbrella attack add tactical depth to boss fights against foes like Megavolt and Quackerjack.
The Japanese version (released as 'Darkwing Duck: When Danger Ducks In') includes additional cutscenes and a rearranged soundtrack. Some enemy sprites were altered from the Western release for cultural appropriateness.
Though overshadowed by Capcom's Disney NES titles, this PCE version is prized for its refined gameplay and being one of the few Disney licenses on the platform. The soundtrack by Yasuaki Fujita (BunBun) is particularly acclaimed.
